The Department of Veterans Affairs proposed changes to the VA mental disorders rating schedule back in 2022. There is certainly a very good chance (though not a guarantee despite what officials testified to Congress) that new rules will be published in 2026. After the final rules are published– and we officially know what those rules will look like (since they can make changes to what they proposed) I will write more about them.
In the meantime here are the proposed rules (that are not final and could be changed): Schedule for Rating Disabilities: Mental Disorders
Here are my public comments related to the 2022 proposed mental disorders rating schedule: https://nexusletters.com/2022/04/05/dr-finnertys-public-comments-vas-proposed-changes-to-the-mental-disorders-rating-schedule/
…and some more public comments, particularly in relation to insomnia: https://nexusletters.com/2024/12/15/more-public-comments-from-dr-finnerty-particularly-related-to-secondary-conditions/
The proposed changes heavily relied on the use of the WHODAS 2.0 and CAPS-5, and I will write some more about those in the event it becomes applicable.
For reference, here is the current but potentially soon to be old General Rating Formula for Mental Disorders / mental disorders rating schedule here: eCFR :: 38 CFR 4.130 — Schedule of ratings—Mental disorders.
