How long will it take to get a nexus letter?

Dr. Finnerty often quotes that it will take 3 to 4 weeks as things have been busy and he tries to get caught up. 2 to 3 weeks is typical, but at times when things get busy it can take as long as one month to get letters back to people.

If you need a nexus letter please plan ahead. For nexus letters based on records reviews, Dr. Finnerty completes them on a first-come-first-served basis in date order based on when you made the payment. When you make a payment you reserve your place in line on the list Dr. Finnerty will work down in date order (you can supply your records at any time after- your place in line will be held).

At times, depending on how many people are scheduled before you and how busy he is, it may take a month or more to get your letter back from Dr. Finnerty. If you have a deadline coming up please let him know and he will do his best to meet it. However, Dr. Finnerty tries to keep the process fair and tries to stick to doing nexus letters in date order except in rare situations. You cannot pay more to get a faster time nor will Dr. Finnerty negotiate away his first-come-first-served policy (though again if you have an actual imminent VA deadline Dr. Finnerty will do what he can to meet it, and if Dr. Finnerty accepted your case indicating he will meet a specific date and have it to you by a specific date he will meet this deadline).

In relation to deadlines: telling Dr. Finnerty a vague time frame you need it by isn’t enough; Dr. Finnerty needs a specific date and reason you need it by that date.
